The One Who Keeps the Door Open for Quiet Dreams

September 20, 2025

She works among thick folders, long spreadsheets, and stories that reach straight into the deepest emotions. In every decision, she is both a guardian of principles and a patient listener, making sure no academic dream is left behind simply because of financial hardship. And if a VinUni student is still able to continue their journey of learning while their family struggles to make ends meet, then somewhere along the way, there is surely the quiet helping hand of Ms. Hà My from the Financial Aid Office (FAO).

At first glance, FAO’s work may seem to revolve around paperwork, numbers, and policies. But hidden within those documents are very real stories of life, trust, and hope. When the door to education is at risk of closing due to financial pressure, she listens carefully, evaluates fairly, and searches tirelessly for ways to keep that door open, so every dream has one more chance to keep breathing.

Mental Tug-of-War Between Fairness and Humanity

There are emails sent late at night, containing just a few words: “I really don’t know what to do anymore…”

There are phone calls, sighs slipping through long, heavy silences: “I want my child to study, but…”

At VinUni, the Financial Aid Office has just one person handling applications and initial assessments: Ms. Hà My. Her workday isn’t simply about reviewing files. It’s about conversations with parents who break down in tears as they speak of their helplessness in the face of tuition fees. It’s about traveling to local communities to truly understand each family’s circumstances. It’s about sitting down with students and listening to worries that no document could ever fully capture.

For Ms. My, every decision is a careful balancing act, between fair evaluation standards and the subtlety of compassion. She holds tightly to transparency and integrity, yet never stops looking deeper for special cases that deserve further understanding. There are times when she doesn’t just sit behind a screen, but goes directly to meet families, to see and feel the stories behind the numbers.

And when admissions season arrives, the workload intensifies to the point where personal plans are put on hold indefinitely. Not because of policy, but because of a belief: if there is still a way to help a student continue their education, FAO will do everything possible to find it.

There are moments when parents burst into tears during interviews, sharing their financial struggles and the pain of being unable to support their child’s dream of university:

“I’m so sad, teacher… sad because I brought my child into this world but don’t have enough to support them. And university feels like the only path to changing our family’s future.”

Yet even in deep empathy, principles remain firm. Every application must be reviewed fairly and transparently. “No one is favored. But no one is left behind.” That is the line FAO must hold no matter how difficult the decision.

“The most human part of this job is knowing that a student can continue studying. not because of luck, but because of effort, honesty, and timely support,” Ms. Hà My shares.

Invisible but Lasting Impact

The value of FAO isn’t always reflected in statistics or reports. Every time a student can keep studying without giving up their dream because of finances, that alone is a quiet success. Financial aid here isn’t just about money; it’s about offering opportunity, building trust, and planting hope.

“The greatest joy is seeing students from difficult backgrounds enroll, grow freely, reach the world, and then return to give back to the community,” Ms. Hà My says.

Sometimes, FAO’s impact isn’t immediately visible. But five or ten years later, students who once received support will become people capable of creating change. And they, in turn, will open doors for others who deserve the same chance.

“We don’t just provide funds. We offer opportunity, trust, and a shared set of values where overcoming hardship is never a solitary journey, but one with companions along the way,” Ms. Hà My shares.

At FAO, every student deserves to be heard, regardless of background. And for anyone hesitating because of financial barriers, FAO wants to say this: Don’t let circumstances stop your dream. If you truly aspire for excellence, VinUni and FAO will always walk alongside you.

Decisions That Are Never Easy

Every financial aid application is carefully reviewed by the Financial Aid Office and the Evaluation Committee. Not every door can be opened. Some applications, after thorough data review, policy checks, and consideration of available resources, must be declined.

These are the hardest moments because each rejection letter isn’t just an administrative decision, but a deep disappointment for students and their families.

“There are cases that stay with me for a long time,” Ms. Hà My admits. “But I understand that to protect fairness and integrity, I cannot break principles. Support only truly matters when it’s given to the right person, at the right time, and within realistic limits.”

And so, FAO is the quiet keeper of open doors steady, patient, and unseen. Not for every dream, but for the quietest, most vulnerable ones, giving them the chance to grow stronger, stand taller, and fly farther.
