The event “Chat cùng VinUnians – Accompanying Your Child on the Medical Journey,” held on the evening of December 12, 2024, was a resounding success, attracting a large number of parents, students, and members of the VinUni community. Despite being scheduled late in the evening, the program welcomed over 90 parents whose children are pursuing medical degrees at VinUni, as well as many prospective parents considering VinUni for their children. After the discussion, many parents expressed their satisfaction with the professionalism, valuable information, and meticulous preparation of the event, as well as their appreciation for VinUni’s high-quality education. They shared hopes that the university would continue hosting similar engagement sessions in the future. On behalf of VinUni Community and the College of Health Sciences, we sincerely thank all the enthusiastic participants and supporters of the program.

During the session, faculty members from the College of Health Sciences provided valuable insights into career pathways for medical students at VinUni and introduced the support systems available to accompany them throughout their studies and beyond graduation.

International-Standard Medical Training Program

The medical training program at VinUni is internationally benchmarked and accredited by the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). The curriculum emphasizes three core competencies: clinical expertise, professionalism, and research capabilities. Notably, it places significant importance on cultivating empathy, compassion, and humanity in medical practice.

One highlight of the program is its competency-based learning model, which allows students to personalize their academic journey. Students gain early hands-on experience at renowned hospitals such as the 108 Military Central Hospital, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, and Vinmec Times City. Starting from their fourth year, students participate in full-time clinical internships for 32 hours per week—exceeding the typical hours of other programs in Vietnam.

Diverse Internship and International Exchange Network

VinUni takes pride in its extensive and high-quality internship network, enabling medical students to gain early exposure to real-world clinical environments. Students have opportunities to train at leading hospitals in both public and private sectors, including the 108 Military Central Hospital, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology, and the Vinmec healthcare system (Vinmec Times City is the only JCI-accredited academic hospital in Vietnam). This hands-on experience equips students with essential skills in patient safety, comprehensive quality management, and service-oriented thinking while encountering a wide variety of medical cases to sharpen their expertise.

Moreover, the small-group clinical learning model—limited to just 2-3 students per instructor—ensures close mentorship and supervision, often supported by senior resident doctors. The student management and evaluation system adheres to international standards, employing diverse assessment methods and tools to uphold competency-based learning.

Postgraduate and Residency Programs Aligned with International Standards

Doctor + Research Master’s Degree (5+1+1)

VinUni, in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania, offers a unique 5+1+1 model, enabling students to complete a VinUni medical degree and a research master’s degree at UPenn in just seven years. This exceptional opportunity shortens the traditional study timeline while enhancing students’ professional expertise. Eligible students can apply for one of three master’s programs at UPenn (Clinical Epidemiology, Applied Research, or Biomedical Informatics) after completing five years at VinUni. After finishing their master’s degree at UPenn, students return to VinUni to complete their medical degree. This program allows research-oriented students to experience advanced education, learning directly from world-class professors and researchers at UPenn, one of the top medical schools in the world.

Residency Programs

The residency programs at VinUni are meticulously designed to meet the highest international medical education standards, offering five specialties: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedics, and Radiology. Three residency programs (Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Surgery) have achieved accreditation from the ACGME-I (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International), a testament to their quality.
Developed through strategic partnerships among Vinmec, VinUni, and the University of Pennsylvania, these programs aim to elevate medical education standards in Vietnam. As the only residency programs in Vietnam aligned with international standards, they offer future doctors unparalleled opportunities to thrive in a world-class academic environment.

Pathways to Practicing Medicine in the U.S.

VinUni supports students in building solid careers by preparing them for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), an essential step for international doctors seeking to practice in the U.S. Throughout the preparation process, students receive comprehensive guidance from VinUni faculty, equipping them with the confidence and skills to excel in the USMLE. Upon passing the examination, students can apply for U.S. residency programs, unlocking diverse career opportunities in one of the world’s most advanced healthcare systems.

The event concluded successfully, leaving a strong impression on parents and students, reaffirming VinUni’s commitment to supporting the next generation of doctors. We hope parents will continue to join VinUni in future activities, helping to build a holistic learning and development environment for young talents.
