Meet the 2024 VinFuture Prize Laureates | Session 2

December 7, 2024

Did you know, “What you are doing right now is the most important thing in the world” – Jensen Huang

In the second discussion session with the VinFuture Grand Prize Laureates, the relatable theme of “Resilience, Perseverance, and Lifelong Learning” was brought to life by some of the world’s leading scientists in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision.

📍 Learn and be inspired by the brightest minds of our time:
🌟 Prof. Yoshua Bengio (Canada) and Prof. Geoffrey E. Hinton (Canada) for their groundbreaking work in neural networks and deep learning algorithms.
🌟 Mr. Jensen Huang (USA) for his contributions to deep learning architectures and accelerated computing.
🌟 Prof. Yann LeCun (USA) for his pioneering research on convolutional neural networks for computer vision.

📍 Four “deep” lessons emerged from this session, offering powerful inspiration for your academic and scientific journeys:

🌱 “What you are doing right now is the most important thing in the world. Don’t worry about the next step—just focus on the present and what’s right in front of you. Whether it’s studying, preparing for an exam, or completing an assignment, this moment is what matters most. Focus and attention are the keys to success, and the way to achieve this is to make the present moment the most important one. Don’t overthink the future!”

🌱 “The best research comes from pursuing what truly excites you. Curiosity is the driving force behind great discoveries. Look for fields where most people seem to follow the same path, but you sense something is missing. While you may occasionally be wrong, patience can lead to uncovering the problem and finding the right solution. This is how many groundbreaking studies have come to fruition.”

🌱 “Scientific research is a journey of exploration, and we can’t always know where the answers will lie. This is why we need diverse groups, labs, and individuals pursuing different directions. Respecting differences and fostering diversity in research ideas is essential.”

🌱 “Set a big goal, then work backward step by step, starting from the very first action. Sometimes, what seems like failure can bring profound insights, and vice versa.”

We believe that VinUni students have truly absorbed the spirit of lifelong learning and resilience exemplified by these scientific pioneers. We hope you will continue to fuel your passion and let it burn brightly on the long journey ahead. Always hold onto your dreams and trust in the academic path you are pursuing!
